"Integrity, American, Patriotism"

Excerpt from a speech given by veteran Owen King at the Lewis & Clark neighborhood flag-raising ceremony.

I am American.  Does that mean I will do and stand up for that which is best for all?

Or does it mean...

I will take from others all I can get away with--maybe I think other people are stupid and I will therefore take advantage of them, abuse them and have a lot of fun at their expense.  Do I get my way by organizing protest groups, going on strike and disrupting the lives of others to get my selfish desires?

I believe to be a patriotic American is to love your neighbor, be unselfish, treat your neighbor the way you would like to be treated.

Be willing to lend a helping hand, talk about your problem, do not become involved in anything that will be hurtful to others, except in legitimate self defense.

I love America--if America is not the greatest it is my fault, not the President's fault.  Speaking of the people in general, we need to shape up and I believe we will.
